Lice Shampoo––Essential Treatment for a Head Lice Infestation
Millions of people suffer from head lice infestations each year. With the advent of the internet, it is very easy to educate yourself about head lice and purchase a good lice treatment product from the comfort of your home. A range of online companies have begun to market natural and nontoxic lice treatment. In order to find the most effective lice treatment, do your research and look for a lice shampoo that in chemical free and enzyme based. Enzymes are used to break down the exoskeleton of the insect, causing it to die within seconds. Essential oils such as tea tree and peppermint oil are also effective at stunning, smothering and repelling lice.
Pesticide poison based head lice treatment should be avoided. They are toxic to small children and have become ineffective due to lice resistance. If the label says the product contains pyrethrin or pyrethrum steer clear!
If you detect head lice, it is important to begin a lice treatment right away in order to prevent it from spreading. Lice travel from one head to another to spread their eggs. It is important to understand that 99% of lice travel via head-to-head contact. Head lice do not jump or fly. Remember, however, that killing head lice is really only step one. After the live lice are dead, you must remove their eggs (nits), or repeat the “killing process” with a natural lice shampoo every few days—or the eggs will hatch and the cycle will begin again within a few days. On the box or label of some lice shampoo, it may claim that lice and eggs will die with one lice treatment, but this is almost always NOT the case. Head lice treatment is tricky, so make sure you follow all the steps in the process so you can successfully end the cycle.
